Restaurants try to be as inclusive as they can, but some try harder than others. As it stands, most restaurants will have a gluten-free option, but those are normally a pizza or pasta variety.

The one area that is often neglected coincides with the most popular dishes on their menu - meat. You might not associate gluten with meat, but several meat products contain it, and this excludes those who cannot or prefer not to eat gluten.

This might be due to the extra cost of buying gluten-free ingredients, a lack of awareness, or simply because they do not consider that enough people will demand it to justify the additional expense.

This is even more true when you throw a Halal requirement into the equation because the product becomes all the more niche. Unfortunately, this hurdle is not jumped over often enough, leaving Islamic diners on a gluten-free diet feeling unsatisfied and restricted.

We are here to tell you that it doesn’t have to be that way. Halal Origins is on a mission to cater for every gluten-free follower of Islam, one restaurant at a time.

Gluten-free and meat

If you are ordering a slab of meat like a steak, ribs, or leg of lamb, you won’t have much to worry about. The same is true if you order something like spaghetti bolognese or lasagne because they tend to have gluten-free options for the pasta components.

But, what happens when you want a burger, sausages, meatballs or a simple chicken kiev?

In most cases, people don’t realise that these items contain gluten when they order them and experience symptoms afterwards and have no clue as to why. And, those who do know are left feeling disappointed when the servers shake their head, apologise, and suggest trying something else from their menu.

However, you need not worry about missing out any more because Halal Origins has a special range of gluten-free products that are available online and we sell them to restaurants via our wholesale meat service too.

Our gluten-free chicken and lamb burgers and sausages are certified organic and Halal, ticking all your dietary boxes as a follower of Islam. Our gluten-free beef is grass-fed but also delicious.

Gluten-free wholesale meat

The next time you are dining out and ask the serving staff whether they serve Halal, organic, gluten-free burgers, sausages, or meatballs, and they tell you no, rather than sigh with disappointment, direct them to our website and invite them to join an exclusive group of restaurants who pride themselves on being inclusive and accommodating.

Our wholesale meat service is the perfect opportunity for such businesses to broaden their horizons and their menus by offering high-quality meat that caters for an underserved but growing market of halal gluten-free diners.

Gluten-Free Meatball Skewers with Sweet Chili Sauce

For those who are happy to eat at home, try our unique recipe using our gluten-free meatballs. It’s great to share with friends and family for a weekend treat.

Ingredients:

500 grams of ground beef, lamb, chicken or a mix, or Halal Origin’s ready-made gluten-free meatballs

1/2 cup gluten-free breadcrumbs

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese

1 egg, beaten

1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes

Salt and pepper to taste

Your favourite gluten-free skewers

Sweet chili sauce

Optional: glazed red or yellow peppers with onions (consider roasted).

Instructions

Combine the ingredients in a large bowl, including the ground meat, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, egg, parsley, garlic, oregano, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper. Mix well.

If making them from scratch, form meatballs by rolling the mixture into 1-inch meatballs, otherwise take the ready-made meatballs and thread them onto skewers, leaving space between each meatball. For additional flavour, try adding roasted peppers and onions between each meatball.

Grill or broil meatballs until cooked through.

Serve immediately with sweet chilli sauce for dipping.

Tip: For a more flavourful twist, marinate the meatballs in your favourite gluten-free marinade before cooking.
