Serves: 4

Ingredients:

1 lb (450 g) ground chuck beef (at least 85% lean, 15% fat)

1 lb (450 g) ground sirloin (at least 85% lean, 15% fat)

1/2 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 tablespoon Dijon mustard

1/2 teaspoon sea salt

1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika

1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for a kick)

4 hamburger buns

1/2 cup mayonnaise

1 tablespoon ketchup

1 tablespoon relish

1 tablespoon hot sauce (optional)

Lettuce, tomato, onion, and pickles for toppings

4 slices of cheddar cheese (optional)

The Secret Recipe

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground chuck beef and ground sirloin to create that 85% lean, 15% fat beef blend we’re after. Using your hands, gently mix the beef together without overworking the meat.
  1. Add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, sea salt, freshly ground black pepper, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper (if using) to the beef mixture. Mix gently with your hands until the seasonings are evenly distributed.
  1. Divide the seasoned beef into 4 equal portions, and then form each portion into a loose ball. Flatten the balls into burger patties about 1 inch (2.5 cm) thick. Be sure to make a shallow indentation in the centre of each patty to prevent them from puffing up too much during cooking.
  1. Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If you’re using a charcoal grill, let the charcoal stones heat until they’re covered with white ash. If you’re using a gas grill, preheat to around 400°F (200°C).
  1. While the grill is heating up, let’s prepare the “Fresh Prince” burger sauce. In a small bowl, combine the mayonnaise, ketchup, relish, and hot sauce (if using). Mix until smooth, and then set aside.
  1. Once the grill is hot, brush the grates with a bit of oil to prevent the burgers from sticking. Place the burger patties on the grill, and cook for 4-5 minutes per side for medium doneness, or until your desired level of doneness is reached. If you’re using cheese, place a slice on each patty during the last minute of cooking, and cover it with a lid or foil to help it melt.
  1. While the burgers are cooking, toast the hamburger buns on the grill for about 1-2 minutes, or until they’re lightly golden and slightly crisp.
  1. Time to assemble the Fresh Prince of Summer and enjoy this wonderful delight, courtesy of Halal Origins!
